This year the CBC Young Leaders Club is working on a massive initiative that seeks to promote sports by supporting underprivileged students from various schools through sourcing sports equipment and other requirements such as funding and donations. At yesterday’s CBC Junior Schools Tournament, four representatives of the Young Leaders Club, namely Mayur Bhakta, Mehul Patel, Ayanda Khumalo and Kishan Parekh, donated cricket sports equipment (1 Helmet, 2 Cricket balls, 2 Cricket bats, 8 pairs of gloves and 10 pads) to Tuskers Development Team, a cricket team which consists of young players from underprivileged schools.
“ We are pleased to donate this cricket equipment to Tuskers who, despite the challenges they face and on their first appearance at the Tournament, played excellent cricket and went all the way up to play in the Plate Final, where they finally lost to Petra Junior School.”– Mayur Bhakta, Young Leaders Secretary
“Congratulations to the Tuskers Team for their inspiring achievements in the CBC Tournament and well done to the CBC Young Leaders on their initiative to promote sports in Bulawayo. Sport encourages students to a healthier life-style and can open doors of opportunity for the less-privileged in our community. I am proud of our Young Leaders for organising this donation so efficiently and would especially like to thank Townsend and Butcher for their donation of 2 Cricket Balls, Mr Mukadam for his donation of a pair of brand new gloves and the Headmaster, Mr Muhomba and the CBC Sports Directors, Mrs D Stirling and Mr A Soweto, for their support in this initiative.”– Mrs Davies, Young Leaders’ Patron
